Hand Harvesting

Hand Harvesting is best suited for scattered and/or pioneering colonies of aquatic invasive species. The teams of divers can cover a large area without being restricted by the length of a suction hose or DNR permit. Our internally developed strategies for hand-pulling are also highly effective at minimizing re-growth of EWM.

One of the most important techniques is minimizing the diver’s disturbance of the plants and sediment underwater. We do this by moving carefully and deliberately, keeping fins and snorkels away from the plants and bottom. Skilled and experienced divers are paramount to minimizing fragmentation of invasive plants. To further prevent the negative effects of fragmentation we use a skimmer net to collect any leftover fragments.
